Common questions

What is SlabCheck?

SlabCheck is a Pokémon TCG grading decision tool. Scan a card, see the full expected value math across PSA, BGS, and CGC, and know whether to grade it, sell it raw, or hold. The formula is transparent and every input is shown — no black boxes, no "just trust us."

How does the expected value (EV) calculation work?

EV = Σ( P(grade) × price ) − cost. We take the probability of each grade outcome (PSA 10 down to 7), multiply by the market price at that grade, sum the results, then subtract the grading + shipping cost. The result is your expected profit if you send the card to be graded. Every row of the table is shown in the app so you can verify the answer yourself.

Where does the pricing data come from?

Raw card prices come from JustTCG (TCGPlayer-derived, condition + variant aware) with eBay Browse API and Cardmarket as fallbacks when JustTCG doesn't have a price. Graded card prices come from PokemonPriceTracker (sold listings across PSA, BGS, and CGC) with eBay sold listings as a fallback. Prices are refreshed continuously — we show the source and freshness of every price in the app.

Where do grade probabilities come from?

Grade probability distributions are calibrated from real submission data across the major grading companies, then adjusted by the condition you set for your card. Setting a card as Near Mint gives you a different distribution than Excellent or Very Good. The distribution is shown in full so you can see the assumption behind the EV number.

What's the difference between Free, Collector, and Investor?

Free gives you 10 card scans per day, a 50-card collection, and basic EV against PSA. It's designed to let you get real answers before you spend a dollar on grading.

Collector ($7/mo or $59/yr) unlocks unlimited scans, unlimited collection size, full EV across PSA + BGS + CGC, and one-tap eBay listing integration. For collectors submitting cards regularly.

Investor ($15/mo or $129/yr) adds price alerts, investment signals, sealed product EV, and seller scoring on top of everything in Collector. For serious collectors holding long-term.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Web subscriptions (via Stripe): in the app, go to Settings → Subscription and use the "Manage subscription" link to open the Stripe billing portal. Cancel there; access continues through the end of the current billing period.

iOS subscriptions (via Apple): Apple is merchant of record for App Store purchases — we can't cancel these on your behalf. Go to Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → SlabCheck → Cancel.

Android subscriptions (via Google Play): same principle — Google Play manages the subscription. Open Play Store → menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → SlabCheck → Cancel.

In all three cases, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep access until then, no further charges occur.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Delete Account → follow the two-step confirmation. If you have an active iOS or Android subscription, you'll be shown a link to cancel it at Apple or Google first, since Apple and Google are the merchants of record and we can't cancel their subscriptions programmatically. Once cancelled at the source, come back and complete the deletion.

Web subscriptions (via Stripe) are cancelled automatically as part of the deletion flow.

Does SlabCheck work with Japanese cards?

Yes. Point your camera at a Japanese Pokémon TCG card and the scanner will identify it. The catalog covers Japanese sets alongside English sets. Pricing coverage for Japanese cards varies — we pull from JustTCG's `pokemon-japan` catalog and PokemonPriceTracker's Japanese-language listings when available. Where pricing is thin, we clearly label the data source so you can decide how much weight to give the number.

Can I connect my eBay account?

Yes — Collector and Investor tiers include one-tap eBay listing. Connect your eBay account through Settings → eBay → Connect. We use eBay's OAuth flow with PKCE; your eBay credentials never touch our servers. Once connected, you can list a card directly from its Card Detail screen with the title, price, description, and photos pre-filled from your scan data.

Where is my data stored?

Card scans, collection entries, and subscription state are stored on Supabase in the United States. Photos captured by the scanner are compressed to a small JPEG, sent to our identification pipeline, and are not persisted. Payment details are handled entirely by Stripe (web) or Apple/Google (mobile IAP) — we never store credit card numbers. See our privacy policy for the full breakdown.
